So you’ve finally taken the plunge and signed up for that dance class you’ve been eyeing for months – now what? Make sure you’re getting the most out of your adult dance classes by being well prepared, both physically and mentally.

How to Best Prepare for Your Adult Dance Classes

Here are a few tips for getting ready to dance your heart out:

  • Make sure you have the right clothing. Are you taking a class that will require special footwear, like tap? Should you wear tights, or would shorts or sweatpants be best? Check online or give your dance studio a call to see if they have any special clothing requirements or suggestions.
  • Eat a balanced meal before class. Make sure you’ve fueled your body properly so that you have the energy and stamina to enjoy the entire class. Aim for a well-balanced meal about 1-2 hours before class for optimum energy. If you tend to get hungry between meals, be sure to pack a snack like fruit or trail mix to have 30 minutes before class starts to give you an extra boost.
  • Be ready to have fun! This may seem like a given, but it’s easy to get inside your head and feel self-conscious or awkward during your first few classes. Remember that adult dance classes are supposed to be fun, so try to arrive in the right mental space to let loose and enjoy yourself! Listen to your favorite playlist on the drive to class, say a few affirmations before walking into the studio, or maybe even bring along that friend who always knows how to give you a confidence boost.

Whether you’re finally living out your childhood dream of being a dancer, brushing up on some old skills, or just looking for a fun workout activity, making sure you’re well prepared for each session will help you make the most out of your adult dance classes.
